Bio

The Boxer The Ring is a proudly South African folk singer/songwriter project by Rob Shaw who has been involved in the South African Music Industry for over 15 years. Having been part of SAMA Award winning bands Versus The Wolf and Proxy, Rob has also played in various other bands such as New Altum, Dane Taylor Trio, The Arrows and Majozi. Rob is well travelled, with tours to the USA, UK, Ireland, Namibia and has toured locally across South Africa on numerous occasions.

 

Since December 2014, The Boxer The Ring has performed both nationally and internationally, opening for international artists (Sean Michel, USA and The Portraits, UK), local artists (Arno Carstens and Majozi) and toured with members of The Parlotones and Van Coke Kartel. The Boxer The Ring has also performed on festivals with Karen Zoid, Snotkop, Lonesome Dave Ferguson and many others. The Boxer The Ring is currently endorsed by Flatmountain Coffee Roasters and ACTV Rings. In 2018 he released his debut album ‘For The Working Man’ which has been playlisted on radio and streamed internationally.

 

The Boxer The Ring has performed in clubs, pubs, festivals, theatres, hotels, markets, restaurants, wine farms, weddings and private house shows. With the ability and versatility to perform both original and cover sets, The Boxer The Ring is a blend of strong guitar rhythms and melodic picking which, driven by an upbeat kick drum and tambourine, carry foot stomping, sing along tunes that hope to tell a story to anyone who will lend an ear.
